The viral video of ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ song from Oru Adaar Love, featuring internet sensation Priya Prakash Warrier, still remains fresh in the minds of people across the globe. The actress’ adorable wink and expressions won millions of hearts, helping her become an internet sensation overnight.

After the video went viral, there were a slew of criminal complaints filed against the actress and the team for hurting the religious sentiments of a section. On February 21, the actress got a huge relief after the Supreme Court stayed the FIRs filed by a fringe group against the actress, the movie director and producer. The SC also ordered that no new criminal action shall be initiated against the petitioners in relation to the song.

‘Winking is forbidden’

Objecting the viral wink sequence in the song, a fresh application has now been reportedly filed against the actress in the Supreme Court, alleging that the act of winking is “forbidden in Islam”. Reportedly, two Hyderabad-based residents have filed this latest plea on April 9.

“The 30-second clip shows a schoolgirl and schoolboy exchanging smiles, eyebrows wiggles and winks from across the way…Winking itself is forbidden in Islam and in a case where the act of winking is superimposed with a sacred song, written in the praise of Prophet Mohammed and his first wife…the same act becomes an act of blasphemy,” the applicants reportedly said.

‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ is the new stylised version of a popular Mappila Pattu, that is popularly sung in the Malabar region of Kerala.
