Dubai-based company to redevelop Dharavi slum

Days after the release of Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kaala, a gangster tale set in Dharavi, Asia’s largest slum in Mumbai, a Dubai based group has reportedly expressed interest in redeveloping the slum.

The Dharavi redevelopment project, initiated by the state government, was stuck for a long time. The ambitious plan has now garnered support from MBM, a Dubai based investment holding company, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on June 10.

“The chairman of MBM group has shown his willingness to support the Dharavi slum redevelopment project apart from other urban infrastructure initiatives of the state government,” a release issued by the Chief Minister’s office stated.

Dharavi Recreated in Kaala

Dharavi, the world’s third largest slum, was recreated few kilometers outside Chennai to shoot for Kaala. Reportedly, the set was erected at a 12 acres campus for a whopping budget of Rs. 20 Crore. It is needless to say, the set was built close to reality.
