It’s definitely a day to stay indoors and catch up on your favorite book! Saying goodbye to the sunshine, Chennai city woke up to some much-needed wet weather on Thursday.
The Northeast monsoon rains have commenced over Tamil Nadu and the adjoining areas of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. Reportedly, Chennai recorded 7.1 mm rain at Nungambakkam and 5.9mm rain at Meenambakkam early today.
From moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to continue off-and-on for the next few days, that are expected to be much cooler. Reportedly, the weekend will be blissful with lingering showers in most parts of the state!
With Chennai city expected to receive a decent monsoon ahead, water-logging is likely to happen in major roads across the city. Well, it’s the best time to take some water conservation measure and put an end to the water crisis in the city.
The latest weather condition comes as a relief for the Chennai residents, who been have facing water scarcity owing to deficit rainfall. Chennaites began posting pictures and videos on social media with the hashtag #ChennaiRains, that is trending on Twitter.

Thanks to the monsoon saving another 100 litres of rain water. Request every chennaite to save water by keeping at least one bucket or any vessel. Let’s not suffer in the month of may. @RJ_Balaji . It would be great if you can spread this message #chennairains pic.twitter.com/CkcMvywrgb
