In what can be termed a catastrophe, an Lion Air passenger flight, carrying 181 passengers and seven crew, from Jakarta has crashed off Sumatra on Monday.

The country’s disaster agency has confirmed the crash.

Flight JT 610 was to reach Pangkal Pinang, the capital province of Bangka Belitung Islands.

Multiple reports say that the flight lost contact with ground control a few minutes after take-off.  It was last tracked crossing the sea.
