TFPC strike: Committee for welfare of film industry to be set up

Actor and Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) president Vishal, on Monday, thanked Mr. Kadambur Raju, Minister of Information & Publicity, for agreeing to set up a committee for the welfare of Tamil film industry’s development.

The actor took to Twitter to convey his message. “தமிழ் திரைப்பட தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் சங்கத்தின் கோரிக்கைகளில் ஒன்றான திரைத்துறைக்கு தனி வாரியம் அமைக்கப்படும் என்று உறுதியளித்த செய்தி & விளம்பரத்துறை அமைச்சர் *திரு கடம்பூர் ராஜு* அவர்களுக்கு நன்றியினை தெரிவித்துக்கொள்கிறேன்.”

The strike by TFPC was initially against the prices charged by digital service providers who stream movies in theatres. There have been no new releases in Tamil Nadu since March 1. Since then, the issue has snowballed into a complex set to demands. Mr. Vishal has termed it ‘revamping the industry’.
