A few days ago, a video of a farmer singing Unnai Kaanadhu from Viswaroopam went viral on social media. Ace composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan had shared the video of the singing farmer and had requested help in contacting him. “This is called fruit of labour! When we hear this, it just makes me feel so so proud of our country that produces so much talent and is so rich in culture. Who is this guy??? How can I trace him? Need help & would like to work with him. (sic.)” he had tweeted.
Soon enough, the man’s name and contact details were traced and it looks like Kollywood may just have one of its most talented singers yet. The man, identified as Rakesh Unni, is now all set to work with some of the best musicians in Kollywood. Check out the man with the melodious voice here-
Director Vignesh Shivn had shared the video on Twitter and had asked his fellow musicians to give Rakesh a suitable opportunity. He had also tagged music composers Anirudh, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Sam CS, Ghibran, Harris Jayaraj, D Imman, Hip Hop Tamizha, Devi Sri Prasad and Santhosh Narayanan.
Actor Suja Varunee too had traced and shared the contact details of Rakesh on Ghibran’s tweet.
Our musicians were quick to react. The internet was soon abuzz with information about Rakesh Unni and his contact details.
Composers that have expressed their desire to find this new talent include Shankar Mahadevan, Sam CS and Ghibran.
Shankar Mahadevan had shared a second video of the man after reaching Rakesh, with the tweet “On #SocialMediaDay I had posted about this very special & talented farmer Rakesh Unni & I’ve just been able to find him through the reach of the internet, I spoke with him & will now take things forward! I’d like to thank each one of you for the tremendous love & support. (sic.)”
Rakesh too had shared a video thanking Shankar Mahadevan and others that helped him get this opportunity.
Music composer Sam CS had tweeted “Thank you @VigneshShivN bro for sharing #, will be recording this talented singer Unni Nooranaadu in next few days for one of my upcoming albums. I’ve come up the hardway too & it’s a privilege to launch such a talent and I wish Unni the very best in all his upcoming ventures. (sic.)”
It looks like Kollywood just got its latest addition of talent, all thanks to the power of social media.
