With the demise of a 26-year-old woman, the death toll in the Kurangani hills forest fire in Theni district rose to 19 on Friday. Sai Vasumathi, one of the trekkers, who suffered around 60 percent burns in the forest fire, succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital.
The number of victims who lost their lives in the forest fire have been increasing with each passing day. On Thursday, Jayasree, 32, succumbed to her injuries at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore. She had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since March 12.
A total of 36 trekkers, were trapped in a forest fire in Kurangani forest, in Theni district of Tamil Nadu on March 11. The group was trapped in the fire as they were trekking down to Bodinayakkanur via the Korangani area. The incident sent shockwaves across the nation.
