In an unexpected move, the government exempted GST on sanitary napkins. The GST slab on sanitary napkins was condemned by activists who believed that menstrual hygiene was a major reason why girls dropped out of schools and colleges.
Previously, sanitary napkins were being sold at 12% GST and many people across India voiced their disapproval for the same.
