Arvind Swami’s salvo against Gautham Menon

Arvind Swami to turn director

Karthick Naren-directed Naragasooran continues to be in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. Now, actor Arvind Swami, the lead actor in the movie, has voiced his opinion on the issue, while taking a dig at Gautham Menon. Reacting to the aggressive tweet by Mr. Menon, which bordered on condescension, the actor took to Twitter to say:

“Yes we all can grow a few things, a pair of eyes that sees what we do to others , a pair of ears to hear the truth, a conscience to tell us when we are wrong and a pair of whatever to accept our mistakes and apologise…instead we grow our list of commitments that we can’t keep(sic).”

What is the controversy over Naragasooran?

It began on March 26, when director Karthick Naren spoke, in a cryptic message on Twitter, about how “misplaced trust may kill you” and his “passion getting butchered from all the directions”. He had tweeted:

“Sometimes a misplaced trust may kill you. People should think twice before taking it for a ride. The last thing you want to see is your passion getting butchered from all the directions for a mistake you did not commit. Threshold!(sic)”

The following day, Karthick Naren got a reply from Gautham Menon. “While some young filmmakers whine about their passion getting butchered instead of growing a pair..(sic)”

That’s when things turned personal and the sparring reached another level.

Karthick Naren replied to Mr. Menon’s tweet by saying he was “treated like trash and made to invest on our own” and urged him no to “do this to any other young filmmaker”. Here’s his reply:

“While everybody advised against it I had the pair to trust you & collaborate sir. In return we were treated like trash & made to invest on our own. I think its better to whine & confront instead of running away. Please don’t do this to any other young filmmaker sir. It hurts!”

Meanwhile, Siddharth Rao of GLO Studios also took to Twitter to express his thoughts on the issue. Retweeting Karthick, he said “For all those asking over the last year … The below thread is exactly what is happening with #NenjamMarappathillai . (sic.)”

Young cinematographer Santhana Krishnan also spoke up about the issue on Twitter- “I would like to add that I also went through the same problem with the production house. It’s amazing how young filmmaker are always take for a ride. (sic.)”

Santhana Krishnan has worked as an assistant cinematographer in many Bollywood movies and is the son of noted cinematographer Ravi K Chandran.
